EEK! Toothpaste?? Man, toothpaste contains 40% WATER. What if a dribble of it overflows the chips as you press down the heatsink and seeps under them? You'd get a SHORT and it would be curtains for the whole motherboard. Also, it would soon dry-out and fracture, insulating the chips from the heatsink. You'd better redo the job with proper thermal paste and if possible with shims, and soon.

Sorry for the late reply. That thermal compound will indeed work, not as good as Arctic Silver but it'll do the trick. Also that doesn't sound like a sign to me, it sounds like there's already microfractures in your GPU's solder but not extreme enough to cause a YLOD just yet. If you want to go about fixing your PS3 then don't bother with the hairdryer method, it simply does NOT get hot enough to do any kind of reflowing. You have to take it apart and use a heatgun like in gilksy's other videos.

Near me, I found a product called Dynex Silver Thermal Compound? Will this work, and I kind new this guy was joking around but I hate when people do that on a serious video. I am also using the hairdryer method. See, I don't have YLOD actually, I have this supposed "early sign" of YLOD when my GPU is fucked and when I play games or even just sit there on XMB, the screen starts fragmenting and it starts to freeze up and eventually freeze with little green dots on the screen in lines.

Well 3 hours later my ps3 is fixed..... well i substituted thermal paste and used toothpaste and a hairdryer instead of a heat gun. Needless to say it's worked for the past 2 hours... i now have 3 working playstation3's....

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I followed the steps and fixed it on the first trial. I used a professional hair drier which heats up more than the normal ones, and aftershave to remove the old heat sink compound :D I'm not sure how long it will last, but at least I got the game out and backed up my stuff... Thanks again :)

I can't thank you enough!!! The first time I did it, it worked for like 2 hours, I did it again but with 500 C for 20 seconds per section, so far so good, I moved my saves to a flash drive and played Fifa for like an hour. Hope it stays like that for like a year!!

I followed these videos and it worked! Thank you so much for making these! I was so bummed because I have the 60gb version and I didn't want to lose the backwards compatibility and all the data. The first time I tried it, it didn't work out. I lengthened the time I heated the thing to about 25 seconds then it worked the second time. I'm not sure if the length of time helped or maybe I just hit the right spots better this time, but it works! Thanks again man. There videos are godlike!
