I was too young to dance like this in 1942, and I am a wee bit past it to do so now, but I must say that my feet are going good style just watching this !! Thanks for sharing this great video.

As much as I love the band, I wish they would show Dean and Jewel dancing more.

Yee, it is Dean Collins and Jewel Mcgowen. They are doing the Dean Collins Shim Sham in the opening number of the video. Incidentlly they are performing his Shim Sham the way he meant it to be danced and not the very slow version that everyones does today because they learned it from the video that he and Bart Bartola did when the were well into their 80's and unable to move this fast anymore. My desire is to see more dancer doing his Shim Sahm at full speed as it really is a very slick dance.

The dancers look like Dean Collins and Jewel. Anybody know?

This was never commercially recorded or released on any format other than what you see here. The only way to add it to your collection is to find a way to copy the audio. I am thinking of doing just that as I love this tune-- can't sit still!

I've never come across this before. Is it the way I've got my sound set or is this the richest, fullest sound I've ever heard from a swing band?!?! It's glorious.

This music is strikingly similar to the instrumental breaks in 50s rock and roll records.

He definitely was not in the band long.I found 2 pics of the Casa Loma band from 41 & 43; he's in the 41 but not in the 43 (Rausch was gone too)...

Considering the fact that the Casa Loma line-up was shifting at the time, it is possible that COULD have been Butterfield as the soloist, 'jive', for this film only....

Rauch is in the line up, but not the soloist.I heard a "complete" version of this short in which he has a short solo on Darktown Strutters Ball & Pee Wee Hunt calls him Charlie.Rust has Murray listed in his discog.,but he had left in 1941 to join Whiteman.Don't kmow any swing era trombonists named Charlie other than Charlie Butterfield...

I believe the trombonist was Billy Rauch, 'ingewb', as he played alongside Murray in the band's last Decca recordings in July 1942 {at which "Purple Moonlight" was first waxed}, just before Petrillo's recording ban took effect....

Does anyone know who the trombone soloist is? Must have been Murray MacEachern's replacement. Too bad left-handed trumpeter Corky Cornelius died 1 year later... he was quite a screamer!
