Cesar was born and raised in Arvin,California, a small town in the Central Valley. Cesar shares his mother Marthas story. Martha came to the United States from Mexico and has worked for nearly 40 years. Martha instilled in her eight children the dignity and value of hard work, sometimes holding down two jobs at once to support her family. Martha is one of the 46 million people in this country without health insurance.

Organizing for America has collected hundreds of thousands of personal health care stories. The grassroots effort is building support in communities across the country for a plan that adheres to President Obamas three principles for reform: lowering costs, preserving patient choice and increasing access to quality care.

Osirysteamo, subscriber below, I agree with you. It is so sad and upsetting when I hear people say that Obama is a communist or a socialist because they are puttng a label on him, judging him, and stereotyping him. I've even heard it on Christian television and radio. I thought those were the people that cared about people and helping them but I hear a lot of Christian radio and tv judging our president and calling him names. It's not right.

Republicans, health insurance companies are feeding this idea that Obama is trying to socialize the health care system--Obama wants ALL people to have access to health care---it is something good. SAY NO TO COMERCIALIZED HEALTH--FOR PROFIT HEALTH CARE---SAY NO TO THE SYSTEM WE HAVE NOW--SAY YES TO A REFORM!!!1

This situation is NOT uncommon, it happens every day. People die every day because of NO medical care, but the republicans don't give a dam.

If you read between the lines, you would realize that nationalized health care would eliminate the government programs for needy people ie, medicare, medicaid, section 8, food stamps. Earning minimum wage would be enough for a person to have a place to live and be able to eat. But when a Dr. visit costs three days pay, or filling a cavity costs 4 days pay, or a prescription costs a week's pay, you give up. You are going to be on the streets anyway.

A lot of people are afraid to get treatment not because they'll be turned away, but because they'll be chased for the money later. The more ill you are, the worse that bill is likely to be.

We need the public option. The insurance companies will screw us without it. The Republicans want to help the rich and screw the poor. They dont care about the majority of people. They want to cut taxes for the rich, but then there is less money for social programs for the poor and middle class. Republicans don't want a public option, because there insurance buddies wouldn't be able to make as much money. To the blue dog democrats, dont be traitors. Get back to your democratic roots.

Why would we want to give free health care to people who don't work for it? This is how socialism works. I get the same thing somebody else gets regardless of whether i or that other person works for it. people shouldn't just get "handouts", that's just being lazy. but personally, i think food stamps and welfare have truly helped. (off subj.) but i was once in the poor house because of 9-11. those programs saved my family. but it should only be acquired for a period of time. not whole lives.

Wow. You know what. This kind of situation is SO UNcommon! Hospitals won't turn you down if you don't have health insurance. Geez. My mom is a PT at a hospital & a medical equipment sales person. My dad works in the pharmaceuticals, and NEVER have they EVER turned anyone down. My mom's given people pacemakers, billy blankets, etc. even if they can't pay for it. But those people who NEED it, will get it, to save their lives. God. This video is like a minority.

I hate to say it but there are many illegal immigrants in the USA, this is a fact. They drive the economy in the US doing crappy jobs most white people hate. America should at least provide these people with heath care. I'm not a racist. Thanks for reading.

cadermd, Wow, I comprehend your anger but I am a liberal and even I am offended by the racism behind what you are saying. It isn't just people of color any more, it is the poor regardless of skin color who are treated the awful in this country. We are a white family, we don't have any of the perks you talk about except vacation which is used as sick leave. No raise in 5 years, dirty grimy physical labor. yeah were living high on the hog! Did I miss something? So many of the comments are talking about illegal aliens and how "it's all THEIR fault." I listened one more time to Cesar's story. He says nothing about he or his mother being in this country illegally. You know it's quite possible that they've both been paying into the system for years. Just because a person has a foreign accent doesn't mean that they are "illegal".

And I extremely differ with your notion that illegal immigrants saved america considering that California is probably going to be the first state to file for bankruptcy, and a major part of their economy in California is Illegal immigrant workers. Illegal immigrants don't pay for state and federal income tax, so how is the state going to have any money. Also the number 2 import into Mexico is US dollars. The U.S's velocity of money is slowing because of Illegal immigration.

why are the jobs unwanted though because Big Bussiness would give a job to illegal immigrants for below minimum wage ( a wage that a legal citizen would not choose because that's not enough to live off of), or they would offer jobs at a above minimum wage but no benefits. The Illegal immigrant would take the job because they are trapped and Big Bussiness wants to make huge profits so they hire him.

The TRUTH is work "with" HEALTH INSURANCE is OFFERED 100% of the time to "any" white skinned person- including former enemy "commies" in USA while 200 years in USA black ppl are still WAITING for that "easy..yes..easy" work offered to WHITE ppl with all the TRIMMINGS like vacation leave, 401K, sick leave and VERY friendly (& even relatives) as BOSS. When will that "match" for the COLORED? We have to work "double" hard to get "half" of the perks/salary- that is FOUR times harder & get SICK.

I agree that all individuals should be given equal care...but when they make no effort to work for a living, or attempt to understand the language of their own country should it even be considered. Now, if someone is truly disabled and cannot care for themselves then situations can change. Still, those who have worked years for their own trusted health insurance should not have to share a waiting room with families off the street.

this should't be a race issue. health care is a basic human necessity. its really sad a "developed country" like the US doesn't protect its citizens, and you scorn "3rd world countries" like mine, Costa Rica which has a great PUBLIC health care system. EVERYONE is taken care off for FREE. even inmigrants. we have a lot of nicaraguans (1 mill, out of a total 5 mill. pop) and if they need help, its given for free. it should be a example for other countries like the US.
