Anytime is good, it's really up to you! Many parents start between 6-9 months. I started with both my children at 4 months. My son signed back at 6 months and my daughter at 9.5 months.

Fantasstic! Studies show that babies who are raised bilingually also have a slight delay in mastering one language, but the benefits are worth a slight delay IMO. This is such a sensitive period for learning languages, take advantage of it! Your daughter has 20 words verbally, which is great, no delay there!

I learned ASL in teachers college as my second language credit and fell in love with the language and kept taking classes.

Thanks :) My facebook page is MySmartHandsFan. To start you pick a couple of signs and show them the signs every time you say the word. There is a link to an article link in my channel I wrote about how to sign with your babies. If you visit my channel you can click on the link :)

When my two year old brother was about 15-18 months he would make a gulping sound (my brothers ask him by saying a-goon which is close) to say he wants water. I definatly want to do this to!

ahh this video makes me so happy to see! and you're right. learning to sign as a baby and learning to talk won't hurt a child at all. a study showed that bilingual babies may actually be smarter, and asl is indeed a language. yay!

I signed to mine from birth and they began to understand before they could sign themselves. They're now 17 months and 3yrs and both are doing great with signing!
