I was wondering if you can tell by source of pain if it's the disk or the piriformis muscel. My MRI indicated L4/L5 which after 8 months of pain I had the back injection last week but no improvement. When the pain first started it was during a brisk walk along the beach and was pain in my upper thigh - it was only 3m later I started getting sciatic pain just above my foot on both my front and back of my lower leg. Is there some way I can tell source just by the source of pain ? Thanks

Thanks for the great explaination. It definitely gave me insights to why I healed fast when I had my disc herniation and the sciatica pain.

With the past history of a fractured pelvis, it could be disc-related sciatica or you may have some jamming in the sacroiliac and/or hip joint that is causing abnormal muscle tension. I suggest you check out my Sciatica Exercises Part 1 and 2 videos and see if either or both gives you any help. It would also be a good idea to get checked out by a sports chiropractor to see if there are joint problems that need to be addressed. Good luck!

Not always, but most cases of sciatica are either due to disc bulges / ruptures or are caused by muscles (most often the piriformis), which in turn may be related to disc bulging or functional problems in the lumbar spine, sacroiliac joints, and/or hip joints.

Get help or learn to massage your butt muscles with a tool. It is more important then i can say. We all need to condition our muscles again like we did as a child in sports, if we did sports and stopped abrutly, i beleive this causes more muscle tension then if we never did the sport. Must stretch and treat muscles like a pro althete again. We all do, we do not, thats part of our problem. All muscle is gonna pull on bones, this is how the human body moves, so our muscles needs love!
