USS Kitty Hawk takes on some rough seas on her last trip before being decommissioned. Taken by a friend of mine who can't claim ownership.

Yes it was a helo. It was a sea hawk and I forget what squadron. I was on that ship during that time and was watching as they were still moving it and a wave hit. That's the only reason it's there. Because when the wave before hit they just tied it down and left it til after the storm. Flight deck control made them get off the deck.

Who forgot to put the F-18 below deck?! What numbskull piece of shit forgot to put the damn plane away?! I want someone's ass for this! Someone is losing stripes! Someone is spending the rest of this tour cleaning heads! Someone just lost all liberty!

Corrosion control is a full time job in any sea going naval squadron. I worked on EA-6s from '78-'89. I even made a CQ det on the Kitty Hawk for a couple weeks back about 1984 when I was on shore duty. We were trained to respond to situations like this. Every workcenter has a corrosion control team that will attack the plane and get it cleaned up. Even so, corrosion was always a battle.

nope...fresh water powerwash and it'll be flying ops again. carrier operations are way more intense on aircraft than a little storm.

There is not enough room to stow all aircraft below. After the heavy seas the air det will wash all the birds with fresh water.

I feel bad for the deck seamen that are mopping the forecastle and most likely barfing. I know the hawespipes aren't sealed that good.

Arrived on board the Hawk on 4/10/1975 as a naive 17 yr. old boy. Became a man on the Westpac 75 cruise. Really sad watching the decomissioning video. So long old girl. Hope they make the museum of her in NC. I served V-2 division, arresting gear branch from '75 / '78.
