With David Tennant having taken his final journey as nation's favourite Time Lord, here are some more classic regeneration clips from the Doctor's previous incarnations. The 8th June 1974 saw Jon Pertwee's time as the Third Doctor come to an end when, having been fatally affected by the Metebelis crystals, he has to regenerate. @Forthelemon McGann also said he was dead too long before he regenerated. But death isn't necessary for regeneration, Romana pretty much did so for fun.

Nope, she didn't know. After all, she wasn't around to see his first two regenerations. Although, they actually do die after their 12 regeneration...plus, the David Tennant regeneration made it clear that it essentially is dying,just...coming back to life rigt afterwards. As someone else.

" In the new series, the TARDIS is completely reliable all the time" "It hasn't been 12 hours... it's been 12 months."

You know, I think the doctor, throughout the years, has been fixing, or at least improving his TARDIS. Think about it: in the 60s, he couldn't control where it went, it simply chose to go wherever. In the 70s and 80s, he could choose where to go, but it was not completely reliable, and would often go to, for example, the right place in the wrong time, or near the right place but not there. In the new series, the TARDIS is completely reliable all the time.

That was her first season as Sarah-Jane Smith, so she couldn't have known about regeneration.

I wonder how long it took to make those special effects of Jon Pertwee regenerating into Tom Baker?

3:57 And thus, Doctor Who was never the same again.

fair enough, but are we supposed to believe that he just loved being 10 more than any of the other doctors? Isn't that kind of insulting to all his previous incarnations? And, while I admit that his fear of death makes for good drama, all it really accomplished was to make the fans hate the eleventh doctor from the start, before he'd even done anything, because 10 didn't want to turn into him.

A timelord can be killed. They are limited to 12 regenerations and sometimes the regeneration may go wrong.

It wasn't how he died, it was his reaction to it. He knew he'd regenerate, he knew that he'd have to go on, but he spends the whole time leading up to it whining and moping and being emo, which jus continues right up to the point where he dies. Ugh.
