Couldn't you just pre-extend the wire and keep it in your pocket and then deploy silently?

Yes, string, bolt and washer was genius, this Steadepod is just "fancy" remake. As far as it's seen othis video there is "procedure" to deploy it. Way to long for everyday work. Having string with washer you can silently leave it down and you step on string where propper height is reached. It is instantly and silently adjustable: You just release foot a bit, to raise camera, or lower the camera and step again o string. But probably you only need your eyes height. It does't dangle and shake cam.

Majorly reduces one of 3 axis of movement - not a big help

The last thing I want is people staring at me because I'm pulling on a chord that sounds like a broken fishing reel. Noisy! Very noisy! Especially if you are indeed in a "museum" or a wedding and do NOT want to disturb other people or the event. This invention missed some major marks in it's execution.
