The SDO launches tomorrow! I have a terrible headcold, so I can't do any narration right now, but I really wanted to let Space Fans know about this exciting new solar spacecraft.

I had a very small role to play in the SDO/HMI project and was going to attend the launch, but life kinda got in the way.

Here is an outline of the science that the SDO team hopes to accomplish If you're a 2012 solar storm watcher, this is the spacecraft to keep an eye on.

I wrote some testing software for the HMI instrument on the spacecraft when I was still working at HAO in Boulder. I was invited to the launch, but I couldn't get down there.

I know they tend to post all sorts of these vids, but I wanted to make sure people watching this channel were aware of it. Since I'm not able to make any vids right now, I thought I'd put this up. SDO is very important, very detailed and high cadence images of the sun are unheard of so far.

4000x4000 pixels sounds 16th century space mission to me! Even every 10 seconds its not detailed enough...
