Just a quick conversation between myself and Arnel Pineda, the new lead singer of Journey. He is an amazing singer from the Phillipines who was discovered -by Journey- on Youtube!

I would love to see Arnel P leave Journey behind and make his own fame, on the strength of his own talent. He does not to be in the shadow of the great Steve Perry. Arnel does a good job immulating Steve Perry, however, he will always be in Perry's shadow as long as he is singing the songs Perry made famous. As long as he is with Journey, he will be considered 2nd rate. Would love to see Perry & Journey reunite, & Arnel going out on his own, becoming famous for being Arnel Pineda.

Perry also gets paid a portion every time his songs are sold or performed. After all, he was the original singer on many of those hit songs.

Steve Perry is far from being in a retirement home! He is enjoying his life though, he actually has a life. Touring non-stop year after year doesn't leave much room for enjoying the fruits of your labor. Fame & money don't necessarily equal a happy life (which is why so many celebrities are miserable, going thru multiple divorces, on drugs, etc.) After working his tail off for 20 years or more, Steve set himself up for life. Good for him. Now it's Arnel's time to work his tail off!

Well done Arnel, Steve is no longer required and he can relax in a retirement home. Now if YouTube could only uncover a new Freddie Mercury...............

I can't believe I lived long enough to see a first Asian to break through and perform with a World Class band like Journey. Arnel you are a phenomena. As a 60's rocker myself jamming with Manila's old rockers, your'e the best of the best . How you hit those high notes simply amazes me. You are Journey's lucky find .. thanks to You Tube. Neal Schon hired you because you're the golden boy he's been looking for. More success & power to you and Journey.!!! Keep on rocking!!
