Mission control video of STS-107 final moments as viewed from the ground. Lock the Doors. Lock the doors really means secure all the data. Or as they say. I downloaded this video just a day or 2 after the crash from NASA web site. But I can't find it there anymore. So I decided to post it here.

yes, oftentimes, an over-educated person will be rather smug and cocky. these NASA people often have their little cliques and they can be very rude and wiseguy-ish. i'll tell you this... these cocky little bastards got dumped on by 'the real world' this day, and they handled it just like i knew they would.... with a uptight and dirt-kicking attitude because they never even imagined that something like this would happen

Hey, maybe a British or Russian rocket scientist can explain this to me. If you look at the SSMES as a complete assembly that includes the fuel and the engines at T = 0, liftoff, you have a combined mass or weight of approximately LOXH + Tank = 1,680,000 lbs + SSMEs 3 x 7,000( 21,000 )lbs = 1.68E6 + .021E6 = 1.7E6 lbs at Liftoff. Does anybody have thrust values for the SSMEs at liftoff? Let's say the combined thrust = 1.0E6 lbs but that means at liftoff the SSME assembly is___well you know.

Ironic, sad conclusion to this video at 2:20 when the Flight Director's assistant closes the book and they stand there with their heads down. God bless them.

The man was Phil Engelauf who was chief of the mission operations directorate and the lady was Ellen Ochoa who was the chief of the flight crew operations directorate.

@knightryderrwn, Back in the day of Gene "Failure is Not an Option" Krantz (one of my heroes), I'm sure he DID order the doors physically locked. These days, it's a procedure call. When you hear Flight say, "Lock the doors", it means to store your data on your console and record--even if it's by pen and paper--everything you saw...heard...did...thought...before leaving. It means something terrible has occurred...and is the worst phrase a Flight Controller can use in their entire career.
