Two NASA satellites are capturing images of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, which began April 20, 2010 with the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig. This short video reveals a space-based view of the burning oil rig and, later, the ensuing oil spill through May 24. The timelapse uses imagery from the MODIS instrument, on board NASA's Terra and Aqua satellites. The oil slick appears grayish-beige in the image and changes due to changing weather, currents, and use of oil dispersing chemicals.

Pretty sure they just let it ooz for about 6 months while they tried to collect it off the surface and then made more rigs so they could finish pumping out the oil. They could give a fuck about cleaning it they were mainly concerned with collecting it. The valdez oil spill is still washing up tar ball from over 20 years ago this won't be cleaned up until your dead. There was alot of coral reefs that are just gone now and won't grow back for another 50 years.

I thought long... very long in fact. A years worth of thinking. The States(individually and collectively) do suffer. Socially, economically, structurally. You don't think greed has some sort of connection to this? Even to the difficulties of people on a smaller and personal scale. You don't feel that it's others greed that we are herded by, like a bunch of sheep whose fleece keeps those greedy all snug and warm? Greed is a major player in every civilization.

This song makes me think about bunnies. I like bunnies. Instead of the oil spill, lets make videos about bunnies

They sure did sweep this under the carpet quick. Sucks to be a southerner, I bet their cancer and illness rates are going to skyrocket for decades. And those responsible for this mess have not been held to account in any significant way... I'd say public execution is too good for them.

It is sad that we (Humanity) have let industrialization ruin our planet. What is even more sad is people are laughing and even hoping others will get hurt or even die because of things like this. If you think something like this won't affect you somehow, someway, you are quite foolish. This will affect everyone on this planet. The best we can do from this point forward is learn from our mistakes, not use them to create excuses only to make new ones in the future.

about time we started implementing the use of proper sustainable fuels anyway... This is just daftness... we don't need this much oil.

The oil spill is just like a volcano. It spews ridiculous amounts of tar and other toxic material into the water or air and people breathe, drink and eat it and they DIE. That is why it's called toxic. However, the earth is made so that things like that can and obviously will happen. Whether it's natural and we helped speed up the reaction it's not a bid deal to the earth cause there has been much worse if you take a look at what killed the dinosaurs. And still the earth is like "Whatever".
