I am having this exact procedure in a few weeks. My father had the same procedure for two disc herniations. He felt great immediately. Leg pain, numbness and foot drop went away almost immediately as well. Takes about 2 to 4 weeks to be able to go back to work. But no bed rest required, in fact they want you to keep moving. Just no lifting anything heavier than a phone or 10 lbs. Some reports of the surgery not working can depend on the severity of the herniations on the nerves and the time th

I had my micro-discectomey over a year now and it has caused more pain and numbness... Sucks. why don't Dr's. here do Disc implants like the u.s.a??? I've heard nothing but good things, also all I hear regarding Micro-discectomies is they are no good, stay away..... as the cutting of the back muscle eventually makes things worse and destabilization of your core is eventual...Leave it to the Canadian health system to take the cheapest way out, causing more pain and suffering in the end. Peace

@dirtyatc & @moe80ca... I felt sucidal too. I still say if that pain came back to get me a bus schedule so I know where to be standing & at what time. 6 years of that pain was far too long. Especially since no doctor ever said, lets get an MRI & when I wanted once cuz I couldn't move I was asked.. Why? What do u want surgery or something?... Geez. Hope you found out some information on what can be done for you!!

I'll be having a discectomy in around 6 weeks time. Have had lower back pain for over 20 years, which then I got the electric shock / stabbing pain in back and down leg for several years, however the last 9 months have had constant pain down left leg and toes and pins and needles, so decided to go to doctor again about this (previously been some years back and earlier and had 2 x-rays) and had MRI done and decided on this procedure.

Thank you for your info, I really appreciate it. For the back sprains, you should try getting into kettlebells. My chiropractor designed a routine for me. They really target the muscles, and have proven to restore motor function. I'm probably preaching to the choir though, cause you probably already knew that. I see the physician in 3 weeks for the evaluation. By the way, the evaluation is with LSI, they do the discectomy, but with a laser? What do you think?

Hi there, I am doing good as of now. I do have occassional back sprains, but nothing that is very much limiting. I havent lifted any heavy weight or like that post surgery though. Also not much physical activity. I think i wll start some aerobics from this month.
