    This animation shows how astronomers think light from a gamma-ray burst called 080319B was released. A narrow jet punched though the outer layers of a collapsing star; this was followed by a wider, less energetic beam (Courtesy of NASA/Swift/Cruz deWilde)

    these objects are flaring up left and right... its just that this particular one had its relativistic jet oriented in the direction of earth, which is why we were able to detect it's burst (most likely to the thanks of FERMI). so of course the brightest GRB would be aimed at earth... it's redundant and a misleading title (since it seems to impose a coincidence) for people who dont study astrophysics. :\
