This novelty song tells of a girl who is daring enough to wear a bikini, but too shy to actually let anyone see her in it.
It was first sung by Brian Hyland in June 1960, with orchestra conducted by John Dixon, and reached number one on the Billboard Chart. It did well in several other countries, including the UK, where it reached Number 8 on the Singles Chart. It was covered by Connie Francis and later by Bombalurina. The Gummy Bears have also had a go at it!
I recorded this with my sister, Annette, on my recent visit to New Norfolk, near Hobart, Tasmania.
