Ross Bagdasarian wrote and performed this song in 1958 using the name David Seville. It is one of two very popular novelty songs of that year, the other being "The Purple People Eater," my rendition of which I uploaded recently.
A man in love asks a witch doctor for help and is given the following advice - "Oo ee, oo ah ah, ting tang, walla walla bing bang" - which was no doubt very effective.
For the "witch doctor" Bagdasarian's used his own voice sped up to double speed, a technique he later developed as the voices of Alvin and the Chipmunks. I make no attempt to emulate the chipmunks in my rendition.
As this is one of the songs I loved as a child, I consider it a children's song.
